BCA 2019 – UPDATES RELATING TO ACCESS

The BCA 2019 came into effect on 1 May 2019. The main implication for access is the introduction of accessible adult change facilities. These are now required for the following building types (subject to certain criteria):

  • Shopping centres

  • Sporting venues

  • Museums and art galleries (and the like)

  • Theatres

  • Airports


Accessible adult change facilities are required in addition to any standard accessible sanitary facilities, as they are quite different in layout and have a different purpose. We are now including advice on these where required.
